Food truly is the way to a person’s heart. If you’ve ever been served a delicious breakfast in bed, have come home to a beautifully prepared dinner, or have had a gourmet meal cooked up for you by a loved one, then you totally get what I’m saying!

If your current or future in-laws could use some warming up, I recommend these savory dishes to win them over! Or, if you’re just hoping to cook up a new meal that impresses your family or friends, then these recipes will work perfectly.

Here in this blog post, I’m giving you two recipes out of my Good Food Good Mood Cookbook! And honestly, the title speaks for itself - I’m a firm believer that good food can instantly put people in a better mood. I’m also sharing one of my favorite overnight recipes from Joanna Gaines.

The first recipe that I think will get your in-laws’ taste buds soaring is my Chicken Spaghetti. This creamy, cheesy, and oh-so-savory dish is an absolute favorite of mine that always brings people back for seconds.

Chicken Spaghetti

Ingredients:

4 chicken breasts, cooked and shredded

6 cups chicken broth

12 oz. spaghetti noodles

1 stick + 2 T. butter

1/2 block of Velveeta® cheese

1 can cream of chicken soup

1 sleeve Ritz® crackers

2 T. butter

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  2. Grease a 9x13-inch pan
  3. Cook and shred your chicken breasts
  4. Boil spaghetti in chicken broth (don’t drain)
  5. Add 1 stick of butter and Velveeta®, and heat until melted
  6. Add cream of chicken soup and shredded chicken
  7. Pour into the pan and top with crushed crackers and 2 T. melted butter
  8. Bake for 45 minutes

Next up is Aunt Heather's Potato Salad that is truly perfect for any time of year. The bacon in this potato salad adds so much flavor! So, rather than going to the store to pick up a premade container of potato salad, try out this homemade option that will leave your in-laws requesting it the next time they visit!

Aunt Heather's Potato Salad

Ingredients:

4 cups red potatoes

2 hard-boiled eggs

1/4 cup onion, diced

4 strips cooked bacon, diced

1 cup mayonnaise

salt & pepper, to taste

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees
  2. Cut potatoes into bite-sized pieces
  3. Bake potatoes on a greased cookie sheet for 35 minutes - let cool slightly
  4. Cut hard-boiled eggs, bacon, and onion into bite-sized pieces
  5. Mix all ingredients and refrigerate

Joanna Gaines' Overnight French Toast

The last recipe that I think will impress your in-laws is a mouthwatering French toast recipe. Joanna Gaines is the queen of winning people over - she has so many supporters following along with her journey, so it’s only fitting that I include her Overnight French Toast Recipe that has likely won many over as well!

Since this is an overnight recipe, all you have to do in the morning is add a couple of toppings and pop it in the oven to finish. Your relatives will love waking up to the sweet smell of breakfast and they’ll love you for preparing it for them.

You can find this Joanna Gaines’s Overnight French Toast Recipe here. (I’m not a huge pecan lover, so I leave those out.)

There you have it - three tasty recipes that are sure to impress your in-laws (fingers crossed!) If you’d like to find more savory recipes like these, my Good Food Good Mood Cookbook will give you plenty of options. Enjoy!
