Being a business owner is truly a world of its own. While most people obviously start a business to make a living, we can only be so lucky to enjoy the day-to-day work that comes along with it.

I’m not going to sugarcoat the ‘being your own boss’ life and say that every day is easy, or that it can’t be stressful, or that some days it’s not hard to push forward (don’t worry, there’s no end date in sight for Doe A Deer), BUT I’m definitely one of those business owners who were able to combine their passion with their business, making it all so worth it.

The fact that I was able to turn my passion for hand-illustrated designs and gift-giving into a space where I get to create home goods for women who want to bring vibrance and happiness into their homes still seems a little crazy to me!

And what started as small has grown into something I honestly could have never expected so quickly. From a team of 1 back in 2016, okay technically two if you count Mia, to a team of 3 plus a virtual assistant in 2021 currently, it’s been a dream come true to see my admiration for patterns and vintage linens become actual decor in actual homes. The support and love that I’ve received from customers and our stockists has carried me to continue creating products that inspire upbeat and uplifting spaces each season.

From the few Iowa retailers who decided to take a chance on Doe A Deer, to the 320 shops that we are currently stocked in…

From the 1 state of Iowa to now 42 states including Hawaii, which I think is just so cool, (and now Canada too!!) where our retailers’ shelves are filled with our items….

kitchen towels

and from selling a couple of hundred towels in our first few years to selling 22,251 in 2020…

I’m just feeling so beyond blessed.

To be a small business with such a big presence because of the endless support for our products, it’s hard to put into words how grateful I am.

So from a small-town girl who started off with two notepads and two towel designs at a little craft show, to everything that Doe A Deer has become, thank you for being a part of this humbling journey with us, I hope you continue to follow along!
